So I stumbled upon this blog a couple days ago and literally had to use all my will power to stop my finger from continuing to scroll down the pages. The amount of creativity is so beautiful and addictive.

Wolf Eyebrows is run by Cath Green who has collected a number of inspiring sites and posted them on this blog. The link I have at the top is where I finished off... for now.

Understanding photography at 3AM

Dear Blog,

So it's been over a week and I feel like I've been avoiding you. Well I wasn't, not on purpose anyway.
The last couple of days I spent enrolling myself in a photography course (which I begin today in the afternoon so I'll probably spend the day catching up on sleep), and visiting the library to study up the theory of photography. At the moment I've borrowed out the book "Langford's Basic Photography: The guide for serious photographers". I'm also taking photographs, which I'll try to post for you later in the week.

For now all I can offer is this article I wrote about Understanding Photography on my photo blog and a line of sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry sorry

feels like home

Dear Blog,

I'm fairly sure I just missed meeting the teacher that was going to help me enrol by two hours. I know, I'm currently kicking myself as I type this. I was starting to feel a bit down hearted and questioned whether I'd spend 2012 repeating last years mistakes, and then a familiar face just appeard out of the blue and suddenly everything was right again. It was only a brief conversation but during those short minutes I felt like I did belong here. That continuing this course is right for me, and that this is really the only place I know where I can express my ideas with other people who understand and think the same way as me.

I've spent so long hiding from this place out of fear that I'd mess up in huge way and not be able to recover. Growing up I was always just average at every task I did, but when it came to art it's like I came to life. Everything was better and felt more in my reach when I was participating in a creative project. It's the only way I know how to live, with a creative mindset.

So I'm going to march myself back here at 8:00AM Monday morning, the whole week if I have to. If this is what I really want (and I know it is) then I better start buckling down and work for it.

Ta ta

my photography blog

Dear Blog,

I've decided to start an extra blog which will mainly be photography and art based. I'm really excited about it because they'e both things I feel strongly passionate about. As you've seen so far I just rant and mumble on this blog about my life but on Photography Notes I'll be ranting and mumbling about photography instead. Fantastic eh? :)

Of course if there's something particularly special that I feel is vital to share with everyone don't fret blog, I'll probably end up posting on both you and Photography Notes. So that's basically all I have to say. I'm going to see about enrolling in a photography course tomorrow so I'm going to head off to bed and get some shut eye.

Good night

Trooper the blackbird

Dear Blog,

During late December 2011 two blackbirds began building a nest by a bush outside our family sun room. My mum was so excited when she spotted them darting back and forth with twigs, she really wanted to go outside and have a closer peek but didn't want to risk scaring off the birds, so for weeks she'd glance through the glass wall and inform us on any progress.

One day mum came to me with the biggest grin on her face, "I saw the mum sitting on the nest. I think she's laid the eggs now." When the mama bird had gone to feed my sister and I checked the nest and found three beautiful small blue speckled eggs. We tried to avoid walking by the nest so as not to threaten mama bird, but every now and then curiosity got the better of us and we'd quickly look into the nest when she was gone, waiting in anticipation for the eggs to hatch.

Eventually all three did hatch and we were thrilled. We didn't know too much about nesting birds so we all agreed not to go near the nest now that the babies were on the scene.

Early one morning at around 6.30AM my dad burst through my bedroom door looking for my hand mirror. I sluggishly got out of bed asking him what was wrong. I later found out, at 5.40AM my parents where in the kitchen and had heard some birds squawking and making a racket in the direction of our neighbours yard so they didn't think too much of it. At 6.20AM the same squawking started up again except this time right by our sun room. Dad checked through the window and saw mama blackbird flying after a magpie. It had already taken the second nestling. My mum started yelling at the magpie just as it came back for the remaining bird, luckily she gave it quite a scare and the magpie flew off. I checked the nest with the mirror and saw the bird hardly moving. It was a pretty chilly morning and we feared it wouldn't make it, but later I went back and to see its tiny pink body quivering to its heart beat. I can't express how happy and relieved I felt.

After that we each took turns bird watching everyday while mama blackbird sat on her nest or flew off to find food. I gave the nestling the nickname Trooper, having taken on an adult magpie at only five days old. Eventually Trooper grew up to be a strong and healthy fletching and left its nest without hesitation on January 17th. I'd like to think he/she is now an adult and living the lifestyle of a wild and free blackbird. I feel so grateful and privileged that Trooper and mama blackbird came into our lives, even just for the few short weeks.
